Map and plan of excavations at Coygan Cave. Left: cave layout at the time of Hicks's excavation in 1866. The four chambers are marked A, B, C, and D. A, B, and C later were revealed to be entrances that were blocked in the late Devensian. Right: cave layout at the time of McBurney's and Clegg's excavations in 1963/1964. Much of the upper levels of fill had been removed by this time and parts of the surrounding rock had been removed by quarrying. Excavation trenches are numbered.
